OFFICERS TRAINING COUNCIL S.B. 579 (S-3): FLOOR ANALYSIS
Senate Bill 579 (Substitute S-3 as reported) Sponsor: Senator Michael J. Bouchard Committee: Local, Urban and State Affairs
The bill would amend the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Training Council Act to delete from the membership of the Law Enforcement Council a representative of the Metropolitan Club and require instead, that the membership include a representative of the Police Officers Association of Michigan.
Currently, the Council is made up of the following members: the Attorney General, or a designated representative; and, the State Police Commissioner, or a designated representative; as well as the following gubernatorial appointees: three members appointed from a list of six active members submitted by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police; three members appointed from a list of six active law enforcement officials submitted by the Michigan Sheriffs Association; one member appointed from a list of three names submitted by the Fraternal Order of Police; one member appointed from a list of three names submitted by the Detroit Police Officers Association; and one member appointed from a list of three names submitted by the Metropolitan Club. The bill would delete reference to the Metropolitan Club and replace it with reference to the Police Officers Association of Michigan.
