Senate Bill 579 (as introduced 6-7-95) Sponsor: Senator Michael J. Bouchard Committee: Local, Urban and State Affairs

The bill would amend the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Training Council Act to increase from 11 to 12 the number of members who serve on the Law Enforcement Council. Currently, the Council is made up of the following members: the Attorney General, or a designated representative; and, the State Police Commissioner, or a designated representative; as well as the following gubernatorial appointees: three members appointed from a list of six active members submitted by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police; three members appointed from a list of six active law enforcement officials submitted by the Michigan Sheriffs Association; one member appointed from a list of three names submitted by the Fraternal Order of Police; one member appointed from a list of three names submitted by the Metropolitan Club; and, one member appointed from a list of three names submitted by the Detroit Police Officers Association.

The bill would have a minimum fiscal impact on the State. The bill would add an additional member to the Michigan Law Officers Training Council. Single members receive travel and other expenses from the State for their service. Paying such costs for the additional proposed member would cost the State $1,200 to $2,000 per year.
