CONTENT

 

The bill would amend the Home Rule City Act, which permits a city in its charter to provide for the punishment of persons who violate city ordinances and sets a maximum penalty, to specify that the maximum penalty would not apply to civil infractions of ordinances consistent with the following statutes: the Michigan Vehicle Code; Public Act 235 of 1969, which authorizes local governments to regulate traffic in parking areas; Public Act 62 of 1956, which authorizes a city, township, or village to adopt the Uniform Traffic Code promulgated by the Department of State Police; or the Marine Safety Act; or to violations designated municipal civil infractions. Currently, under the Home Rule City Act, the maximum penalty for an ordinance violation is a fine $500 and/or imprisonment for 90 days.
