Senate Bill 957 (as introduced 4-17-96) Sponsor: Senator Dianne Byrum

Committee: Economic Development, International Trade and Regulatory Affairs Date Completed: 9-16-96

CONTENT

The bill would amend the Michigan Liquor Control Act to prohibit an appointed or elected public official who served on a full-time basis and who enforced Federal or State penal laws or municipal penal ordinances or resolutions from, directly or indirectly, being issued, or having an interest in, a liquor license if the activity regulated by the license occurred in the same local unit of government within which the official enforced the State or local penal laws.

Currently, the Act prohibits a person who holds, or whose spouse holds, by appointment or election, a public office that involves the enforcement of Federal or State penal laws or local penal ordinances or resolutions from directly or indirectly being issued, or having an interest in, a liquor license. The bill would modify this provision, as described above.
