SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4665 as passed by the House:

The bill would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to provide that all vehicles, including animal- drawn vehicles, implements of husbandry, road machinery, road rollers, and farm tractors, not otherwise required to be equipped with head or rear lamps, would have to be equipped with a lamp exhibiting a red light visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear of the vehicle, instead of a distance of 300 feet to the vehicle’s rear as currently required under the Code. The bill would take effect January 1, 1996.

The Code specifies that the front and rear of these vehicles must be equipped with at least one lighted lamp or lantern. The bill would delete reference to lanterns.
