CONTENT

 

The bill would amend the governmental immunity Act to provide that a guardian ad litem would be immune from civil liability for injuries to persons or damage to property whenever the guardian ad litem was acting within the scope of his or her authority as guardian ad litem. (Guardians ad litem are appointed by judges to investigate and make recommendations to the court regarding the best interests of a minor or other legally incapacitated person.)

 

The bill would take effect on May 1, 1996, and apply to actions filed before, on, or after that date. MCL 691.1407                                                                                         Legislative Analyst: P. Affholter
