A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5466 AS INTRODUCED 1-14-98

Public Act 157 of 1905 provides for the creation of an elected township park commission of six members serving four-year terms. The bill would amend the act so that the commission would have seven members.

The bill also would specify that a vacancy on the commission would be filled "in the same manner as the original appointment." Public Act 157 calls for the appointment of the initial set of park commissioners by the township board until the next township election. At that time the park commissioners are elected. (A township park commission is created by the submission of a written petition by at least eight percent of registered township voters and the subsequent approval by a majority of township voters.)
