A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5706 AS INTRODUCED 3-18-98
Under the Traxler-McCauly-Law-Bowman Bingo Act, a charitable organization can receive no more than two 24-hour licenses for nonconsecutive days or one 72-hour license per year to conduct millionaire parties (also known as Las Vegas Nights). The bill would discontinue the 72-hour license and provide instead for up to five millionaire licenses per calendar year per qualified organization. Each license would be valid for up to five days for a single location. Fees would be $50 per day.
Further, under current law, the maximum combined value of merchandise and prizes awarded in a charity organization millionaire party is limited to $2,000 per day. The bill would delete this restriction and instead would set a $15,000 limit per day on the amount an organization could receive in exchange for imitation money or chips at a millionaire party. (The $500 limit on winnings per individual would remain in effect.)
