House Bill 5924
Sponsor: Rep. Michael Griffin
Committee: Health Policy
Complete to 9-18-98
A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5924 AS INTRODUCED 6-10-98
The bill would amend the Public Health Code to increase the voting membership of the Michigan Board of Dentistry from 13 members to 21 members, to include dentists of certain specialties, and to increase the number of public members from two to three. The bill would specify that board composition would comprise three members of the public, two dental hygienists, two dental assistants, seven dentists who do not have a health profession specialty certification issued under the code, and one dentist from each of the following specialty fields holding a specialty certification: prosthodontics, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, and oral pathology. A dentist currently on the board at the time of the bill's effective date could serve out his or her term even if it meant that the composition of the board would not meet the compositional requirements of the bill. The board meeting dates and times would have to be concurred in by a vote of 18 (increased from 10) members. Further, the bill would delete obsolete provisions.
