A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5977 AS INTRODUCED 6-30-98

The bill would amend the state's Dignified Death Act to change the definition of "terminal illness." The act currently defines terminal illness as "a disease or condition due to which, in the opinion of a physician, a patient's death is anticipated within 6 months after the date of the physician's opinion. " Under the bill, the definition would be "a disease or condition with a terminal prognosis based upon the opinion of the treating physician."
