A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6080 AS INTRODUCED 9-16-98

Under the Social Welfare Act (MCL 400.57e) an applicant for Family Independence Assistance must participate in developing a family social contract with the Family Independence Agency (FIA). The social contract identifies certain goals that the applicant must meet, such as attending Work First or school, or gaining employment. House Bill 6080 would amend the act to add that, in the case of recipients whose child or children had been removed from the home, the monitoring would have to include the requirement that any assistance worker with whom the FIA had privately contracted, or to whom the FIA had delegated monitoring functions, verify the applicant's participation in Work First, attendance at school, or gainful employment.
