A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6205 AS INTRODUCED 9-24-98

House Bill 6205 would amend the Railroad Code of 1993 to allow the Department of Transportation to assess 100 percent of the costs of active traffic control devices to the railroad, if the department determines that a railroad grade crossing is necessary or that the devices are necessary due to increased traffic on the railroad. Under current law, the costs of any installation, alteration, or modernization of active traffic control devices must be undertaken at equal expense to the railroad and the road authority.
