WORKER'S DISABILITY INSURANCE - S.B. 580: FLOOR ANALYSIS

Senate Bill 580 (as reported with amendment)

Sponsor: Senator Walter H. North

Committee: Transportation and Tourism

CONTENT

The bill would amend the Worker's Disability Compensation Act to exempt construction sites that were State, Federally, or locally funded, from the requirement that the cost of construction exceed $65 million, not including the cost of land acquisition, at a specified construction site in order for a separate policy to be issued to cover employers working at the site.

Currently, a separate insurance policy may be issued to cover employers working at a construction site, if the Director of the Bureau of Worker's Disability Compensation finds that the liability under the Act of each employer to all of his or her employees would be fully secured, the completion period for the construction will not be more than five years, and the cost of construction excluding land acquisition will exceed $65 million.
