Senate Bill 986 (as introduced 3-3-98)
Sponsor: Senator Philip E. Hoffman
Committee: Hunting, Fishing and Forestry
Date Completed: 3-23-98
CONTENT
The bill would amend the handgun licensure Act to provide that in addition to the application fee required under the Act, each applicant for a license to carry a concealed pistol would have to pay a $5 fee payable to the county. The county treasurer would have to deposit the fee in a Concealed Weapon Awareness Fund for the county. The Fund could be used to provide education, training, and other programs concerning concealed pistol laws, enforcement of those laws, and safety procedures for peace officers of the county and local units of government. The bill would take effect January 1, 1999.
Currently, a local unit of government may charge an applicant a fee up to $5 for the actual and necessary expenses of a license to purchase, carry, or transport a pistol.
The bill would be tie-barred to Senate Bills 967, 983, 984, 985, 987, and 988, which pertain to concealed weapons, and several bills that have not yet been introduced.
