CONTENT
The bill would amend the Legislative Council Act to require the Legislative Council, beginning January 1, 1998, to make available to the public on the Internet, free of charge, the text of the Senate and House journals for the current legislative session. The information maintained by the Council and placed on the Internet under the bill would have to be made available in the shortest feasible time after the information was available. The information that was not maintained by the Council would have to be made available in the shortest feasible time after it was made available to the Council.
The bill states that it would not alter or relinquish any copyright or other proprietary interest or entitlement of the State relating to any of the information made available.

FISCAL IMPACT
The Legislature currently makes available on the Internet journals and bill analyses. The cost is included with other information made available on the Internet by the Legislature. Approximately $100,000 for hardware and $400,000 for five FTEs have been allocated to the project.
