H.B. 5237 (H-1): COMMITTEE SUMMARY - SCHOOL FIRE DRILLS
House Bill 5237 (Substitute H-1 as passed by the House)
Sponsor: Representative Gerald Law
Committee: Education
Date Completed: 2-24-98
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Fire Prevention Code to require that of the minimum 10 fire drills required for each school year at least two be shelter in-place drills.
(The Code currently requires the chief administrative officer and the teachers of all schools, including State-supported schools, colleges, and universities and the owner, or owner's representative, of all school dormitories to have a fire drill each month, with a minimum of 10 drills required for each school year. If weather conditions will not permit fire drills to be held at least monthly, then at least six fire drills must be held in the fall of each year and four fire drills must be held during the remaining part of the school year.)
