CONTENT
The bill amended a provision of the Revised Probate Code that allows a court to appoint a guardian for an unmarried minor if the parent or parents have permitted the minor to reside with another person and have not provided that person with legal authority for the care and maintenance of the minor. Under the bill, the court may appoint a guardian under these circumstances if the minor is not residing with his or her parent or parents when the petition for appointment of a guardian is filed.
The bill will take effect on March 1, 1999.
