A bill to amend 1947 PA 359, entitled "The charter township act," by amending section 4 (MCL 42.4), as amended by 1990 PA 12. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 4. Candidates for township office in charter townships 2 shall be nominated at the general primary election held in the 3 township before each general election at which township officers 4 are to be elected. The primary election shall be conducted, as 5 near as may be, pursuant to the Michigan election law,Act6No. 116 of the Public Acts of 1954, as amended, being sections7168.1 to 168.992 of the Michigan Compiled Laws1954 PA 116, MCL 8 168.1 TO 168.992.To obtain the printing of the name of a can-9didate of a political party for a township office under the10particular party heading on the official primary election ballot11of the township, there shall be filed with the township clerk of00838'97 * TLG 2 1the township up to 4 p.m. of the twelfth Tuesday before the day2designated for holding the primary election, nomination petitions3bearing the signatures of a number of registered and qualified4voters of the township equal to not less than 1% or more than 4%5of the total number of votes cast for the office of supervisor in6the township in the last election in which a supervisor was7elected.Duties of the county clerk in the conduct of primary 8 elections shall be performed by the township clerk with respect 9 to the nomination of township officers, and the duties of the 10 county board of election commissioners shall be performed for 11 each township by a board of township election commissioners to be 12 composed of the township clerk and the 2 trustees appointed by 13 the township board. 00838'97 * Final page.
