A bill to amend 1980 PA 299, entitled "Occupational code," by amending section 2012 (MCL 339.2012), as amended by 1992 PA 103. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 2012. (1) The following persons are exempt from the 2 requirements of this article: 3 (a) A professional engineer employed by a railroad or other 4 interstate corporation,whose employment and practice is con- 5 fined to the property of the corporation. 6 (b) A designer of a manufactured product,if the manufac- 7 turer of the product assumes responsibility for the quality of 8 the product. 9 (c) An owner doing architectural, engineering, or surveying 10 work upon or in connection with the construction of a building on 02814'97 LBO 2 1 the owner's property for the owner's own use to which THAT 2 PERSON'S employees and the public are not generally to have 3 access. 4 (d) A person not licensed under this article who is plan- 5 ning, designing, or directing the construction of a residence 6 building not exceeding 3,500 square feet in calculated floor 7 area. As used in this subdivision and section 2014(e), 8 "calculated floor area" means that portion of the total gross 9 area, measured to the outside surfaces of exterior walls intended 10 to be habitable, including a heater or utility room, but not 11 including a crawl space; an unfinished and nonhabitable portion 12 of a basement or attic; or a garage, open porch, balcony, ter- 13 race, or court. 14 (e) A personwho islicensed to engage in the practice of 15 architecture, professional engineering, or professional surveying 16 in another state while temporarily in this state to present a 17 proposal for services. 18 (F) A PERSON TRAINED IN THE DESIGN OF INTERIOR SPACES PRE- 19 PARING DOCUMENTS FOR NON-LOAD-BEARING BUILDING ELEMENTS INCLUD- 20 ING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, INTERIOR PARTITIONING THAT INVOLVES THE 21 FOLLOWING: 22 (i) SPACE PLANS ACCOMMODATING EGRESS AND INGRESS. 23 (ii) ELECTRICAL OUTLET, DATA, COMMUNICATION, AND MODULAR 24 PREWIRED POWER LOCATION PLANS. 25 (iii) REFLECTED CEILING PLANS LOCATING VISUAL ELEMENTS AND 26 CEILING CONFIGURATION. 02814'97 3 1 (iv) SPECIFICATIONS AND SUPPLY OF MATERIALS, FURNISHINGS, 2 SYSTEM FURNITURE, FIXTURES, OFFICE EQUIPMENT, AND DIRECTIONAL AND 3 IDENTIFICATION SIGNAGE FOR INTERIOR SPACE. 4 (2) NOTWITHSTANDING SECTIONS 2008, 2011(1), AND 2014(E), A 5 PUBLIC AUTHORITY SHALL NOT REJECT ANY DOCUMENTS RELATING TO THE 6 DESIGN OF INTERIOR SPACES OR NON-LOAD-BEARING BUILDING ELEMENTS 7 INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, INTERIOR PARTITIONING INVOLVING 8 THE FOLLOWING SOLELY FOR THE LACK OF A SEAL: 9 (A) SPACE PLANS ACCOMMODATING EGRESS AND INGRESS. 10 (B) ELECTRICAL OUTLET, DATA, COMMUNICATION, AND MODULAR PRE- 11 WIRED POWER LOCATION PLANS. 12 (C) REFLECTED CEILING PLANS LOCATING VISUAL ELEMENTS AND 13 CEILING CONFIGURATION. 14 (D) SPECIFICATIONS AND SUPPLY OF MATERIALS, FURNISHINGS, 15 SYSTEM FURNITURE, FIXTURES, OFFICE EQUIPMENT, AND DIRECTIONAL AND 16 IDENTIFICATION SIGNAGE FOR INTERIOR SPACE. 02814'97 Final page.
