        A bill to amend 1909 PA 279, entitled

   "The home rule city act,"

   (MCL 117.1 to 117.38) by amending the title, as amended by 1986

   PA 64, and by adding section 25a.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1                                  TITLE

 2         An act to provide for the incorporation of cities and for

 3    revising and amending their charters; to provide for certain

 4    powers and duties; to provide for the levy and collection of

 5    taxes by cities, borrowing of money, and issuance of bonds or

 6    other evidences of indebtedness; to validate actions taken, bonds

 7    issued, and obligations heretofore incurred; TO PRESCRIBE PENAL-

 8    TIES AND PROVIDE REMEDIES; and to repeal  certain  acts and parts

 9    of acts on specific dates.

 1         SEC. 25A.  A PETITION UNDER SECTION 3, 5, 5C, 6, 7, 8, 8A,

 2    9(5), 11, 14A, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, OR 25, INCLUDING THE

 3    CIRCULATION AND SIGNING OF THE PETITION, IS SUBJECT TO SECTION

 4    488 OF THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL 168.488.  A

 5    PERSON WHO VIOLATES A PROVISION OF THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW,

 6    1954 PA 116, MCL 168.1 TO 168.992, APPLICABLE TO A PETITION

 7    DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION IS SUBJECT TO THE PENALTIES PRESCRIBED

 8    FOR THAT VIOLATION IN THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL

 9    168.1 TO 168.992.

10         Enacting section 1.  This amendatory act does not take

11    effect unless Senate Bill No. _____ or House Bill No. _____

12    (request no. 02378'97) of the 89th Legislature is enacted into

13    law.
