        A bill to amend 1937 PA 345, entitled

   "Fire fighters and police officers retirement act,"

   (MCL 38.551 to 38.562) by amending the title, as amended by 1989

   PA 7, and by adding section 11a.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1                                  TITLE

 2         An act to provide for the establishment, maintenance, and

 3    administration of a system of pensions and retirements for the

 4    benefit of the personnel of fire and police departments employed

 5    by cities, villages, or municipalities having full paid members

 6    in the departments, and for the spouses and children of the mem-

 7    bers; to provide for the creation of a board of trustees to

 8    manage and operate the system; to authorize appropriations and

 9    deductions from salaries; TO PRESCRIBE PENALTIES AND PROVIDE

 1    REMEDIES; and to repeal all acts and parts of acts inconsistent

 2    therewith.

 3         SEC. 11A.  A PETITION UNDER SECTION 11, INCLUDING THE CIRCU-

 4    LATION AND SIGNING OF THE PETITION, IS SUBJECT TO SECTION 488 OF

 5    THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL 168.488.  A PERSON

 6    WHO VIOLATES A PROVISION OF THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA

 7    116, MCL 168.1 TO 168.992, APPLICABLE TO A PETITION DESCRIBED IN

 8    THIS SECTION IS SUBJECT TO THE PENALTIES PRESCRIBED FOR THAT VIO-

 9    LATION IN THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL 168.1 TO

10    168.992.

11         Enacting section 1.  This amendatory act does not take

12    effect unless Senate Bill No. _____ or House Bill No. _____

13    (request no. 02378'97) of the 89th Legislature is enacted into

14    law.
