        A bill to amend 1921 PA 378, entitled

   "An act to provide for the several counties of the state of
   Michigan purchasing or making, establishing and maintaining sys-
   tems of abstracts of title of lands in such counties; the making
   and selling of abstracts of title and furnishing of information
   concerning the condition of titles and charging of fees therefor;
   the employing of persons to keep and maintain such systems of
   abstracts, and the doing of all things necessary for the carrying
   on of a general business of making and furnishing abstracts of
   title to the lands in such counties,"

   (MCL 53.141 to 53.151) by amending the title and by adding sec-

   tion 12.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1                                  TITLE

 2         An act to provide for the several counties of the state of

 3    Michigan purchasing or making, establishing, and maintaining sys-

 4    tems of abstracts of title of lands in such counties; the making

 5    and selling of abstracts of title and furnishing of information

 6    concerning the condition of titles and charging of fees therefor;

 1    the employing of persons to keep and maintain such systems of

 2    abstracts;  , and  the doing of all things necessary for the car-

 3    rying on of a general business of making and furnishing abstracts

 4    of title to the lands in such counties; AND TO PRESCRIBE PENAL-

 5    TIES AND PROVIDE REMEDIES.

 6         SEC. 12.  A PETITION UNDER SECTION 11, INCLUDING THE CIRCU-

 7    LATION AND SIGNING OF THE PETITION, IS SUBJECT TO SECTION 488 OF

 8    THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL 168.488.  A PERSON

 9    WHO VIOLATES A PROVISION OF THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA

10    116, MCL 168.1 TO 168.992, APPLICABLE TO A PETITION DESCRIBED IN

11    THIS SECTION IS SUBJECT TO THE PENALTIES PRESCRIBED FOR THAT VIO-

12    LATION IN THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL 168.1 TO

13    168.992.

14         Enacting section 1.  This amendatory act does not take

15    effect unless Senate Bill No. _____ or House Bill No. _____

16    (request no. 02378'97) of the 89th Legislature is enacted into

17    law.
