        A bill to amend 1956 (Ex Sess) PA 6, entitled

   "Township water system act of 1956,"

   (MCL 486.501 to 486.508) by amending the title and by adding sec-

   tion 4a.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1                                  TITLE

 2         An act authorizing the formation of corporations for the

 3    purpose of supplying to, distributing and selling water to a

 4    township or townships and giving to such corporations rights to

 5    take water from the Great Lakes, Lake St.  Clair, and the bays

 6    thereof; authorizing a township or townships to contract with

 7    such corporations for the purchase of water by said township or

 8    townships and authorizing any township to purchase waterworks,

 9    systems, installations and real and personal property of such

10    corporations;  , and  authorizing such township or townships to

 1    pass ordinances with respect thereto; AND TO PRESCRIBE PENALTIES

 2    AND PROVIDE REMEDIES.

 3         SEC. 4A.  A PETITION UNDER SECTION 4, INCLUDING THE CIRCULA-

 4    TION AND SIGNING OF THE PETITION, IS SUBJECT TO SECTION 488 OF

 5    THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL 168.488.  A PERSON

 6    WHO VIOLATES A PROVISION OF THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA

 7    116, MCL 168.1 TO 168.992, APPLICABLE TO A PETITION DESCRIBED IN

 8    THIS SECTION IS SUBJECT TO THE PENALTIES PRESCRIBED FOR THAT VIO-

 9    LATION IN THE MICHIGAN ELECTION LAW, 1954 PA 116, MCL 168.1 TO

10    168.992.

11         Enacting section 1.  This amendatory act does not take

12    effect unless Senate Bill No. _____ or House Bill No. _____

13    (request no. 02378'97) of the 89th Legislature is enacted into

14    law.
