A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending sections 612 and 1101 (MCL 380.612 and 380.1101), section 1101 as amended by 1995 PA 289. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 612. (1)AEXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED IN SUBSEC- 2 TION (3), A school elector of a constituent districtshall be3 IS eligible to election or appointment to membership on the 4 intermediate school board.AEXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED IN 5 SUBSECTION (3), A member of a board of a constituent district 6shall beIS eligible to election or appointment to membership 7 on the intermediate school board. 8 (2) A member of an intermediate school board who is a member 9 of a constituent district board shall not participate in 10 proceedings conducted pursuant to part 11 to detach territory 04830'97 TAV 2 1 from or attach territory to the constituent district of which he 2 or she is a board member. 3 (3) A PERSON CONVICTED OF A CRIME DESCRIBED IN SECTION 4 1535A(2) IS NOT ELIGIBLE TO BE ELECTED OR APPOINTED TO MEMBERSHIP 5 ON AN INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL BOARD. 6 Sec. 1101. (1)AEXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED IN SUBSEC- 7 TION (3), A school elector in a school district is eligible to 8 election or appointment to office in that school district. 9 (2) The term of office of each member of a board of educa- 10 tion shall commence on July 1, or on January 1 if the election is 11 in November, and shall continue until a successor is elected and 12 qualified or until a vacancy occurs under section 1103. 13 (3) A PERSON CONVICTED OF A CRIME DESCRIBED IN 14 SECTION 1535A(2) IS NOT ELIGIBLE TO BE ELECTED OR APPOINTED TO 15 OFFICE IN A SCHOOL DISTRICT. 04830'97 Final page.
