        A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled

   "Michigan election law,"

   by amending section 509u (MCL 168.509u), as added by 1994 PA

   441.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         Sec. 509u.  (1) Not later than  the thirtieth day after the

 2     effective date of this section  FEBRUARY 9, 1995, the governor

 3    shall provide a list to the secretary of state designating the

 4    executive departments, state agencies, or other offices that will

 5    perform voter registration activities in this state.

 6         (2)  Pursuant to  IN ACCORDANCE WITH the national voter reg-

 7    istration act of 1993, a recruitment office of the armed forces

 8    of the United States is a designated voter registration agency

 9    under this act.

 1         (3) TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY THE STATE CONSTITUTION OF

 2    1963, AN INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION IS A DESIGNATED VOTER

 3    REGISTRATION AGENCY UNDER THIS ACT FOR PERSONS ATTENDING THAT

 4    INSTITUTION AS FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME STUDENTS.  AS USED IN THIS

 5    SUBSECTION, "INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION" MEANS A COLLEGE,

 6    UNIVERSITY, COMMUNITY COLLEGE, OR JUNIOR COLLEGE DESCRIBED IN

 7    SECTION 4, 5, OR 6 OF ARTICLE VIII OF THE STATE CONSTITUTION OF

 8    1963 OR ESTABLISHED UNDER SECTION 7 OF ARTICLE VIII OF THE STATE

 9    CONSTITUTION OF 1963.
