HOUSE BILL No. 5547


     February 5, 1998, Introduced by Reps. Rocca, Callahan, Middaugh, DeVuyst, Baade, Anthony and Alley and referred to the Committee on Conservation, Environment and Recreation.


        A bill to repeal 1947 LA 9, entitled

   "The act to prevent hunting, on Sunday, for game animals and game
   birds in the county of Macomb;"

   and to provide for a referendum.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         Enacting section 1.  1947 LA 9 is repealed.

 2         Enacting section 2.  (1) This act does not take effect

 3    unless submitted to a vote of the qualified electors of Macomb

 4    county and approved by a majority of the electors voting on the

 5    question.  The question of approval of this act shall be submit-

 6    ted to the qualified electors of Macomb county at the next regu-

 7    lar election to be held not less than 60 days after the effective

 8    date of this act, or at a special election called for that pur-

 9    pose by the county board of commissioners of Macomb county.  The

10    question shall be submitted in substantially the following form:

 1         "Shall 1998 Local Act ______, which would repeal 1947 LA 9

 2    and therefore would permit hunting, on Sunday, for game animals

 3    and game birds in the county of Macomb, be adopted?

 4         Yes ( )

 5         No ( )".

 6         (2) If a majority of the qualified electors voting on the

 7    question vote in favor of the adoption of this act, the repeal of

 8    the act to prevent hunting, on Sunday, for game animals and game

 9    birds in the county of Macomb, 1947 LA 9, becomes effective 10

10    days following the certification of the election results.
