A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled "Public health code," by amending section 16621 (MCL 333.16621). THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 16621. (1) The Michigan board of dentistry is created 2 in the department.TheSUBJECT TO SUBSECTION (2), THE board 3 shall consist of the following1321 voting members who shall 4 meet the requirements of part 161:75 (A) SEVEN dentists, 2WHO DO NOT HAVE A HEALTH PROFESSION 6 SPECIALTY CERTIFICATION ISSUED UNDER SECTION 16608. 7 (B) ONE DENTIST FROM EACH OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIALTY FIELDS 8 WHO HAS BEEN ISSUED A HEALTH PROFESSION SPECIALTY CERTIFICATION 9 UNDER SECTION 16608: 10 (i) PROSTHODONTICS. 06479'98 CPD 2 1 (ii) ENDODONTICS. 2 (iii) ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY. 3 (iv) ORTHODONTICS. 4 (v) PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY. 5 (vi) PERIODONTICS. 6 (vii) ORAL PATHOLOGY. 7 (C) TWO dental hygienists., 28 (D) TWO dental assistants., and 29 (E) THREE public members. 10 (2) A DENTIST WHO IS A MEMBER OF THE BOARD AS OF THE EFFEC- 11 TIVE DATE OF THE AMENDATORY ACT THAT ADDED THIS SUBSECTION MAY 12 SERVE OUT HIS OR HER TERM, EVEN IF HIS OR HER MEMBERSHIP PREVENTS 13 THE BOARD FROM MEETING THE COMPOSITIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF SUBSEC- 14 TION (1)(A) OR (B). 15 (3) The board meeting dates and times shall be concurred in 16 by a vote of not less than1018 board members. Not more than 17 1 member of the board may be a dental school faculty member. 18(2) The dental assistants first appointed to the board19shall be graduates of a dental assisting program accredited by20the commission on accreditation of the American dental21association. This subsection shall expire 3 years after the22effective date of this article.23(3) The requirement of section 16135(d) that a board member24shall have practiced that profession for 2 years immediately25before appointment is waived for 2 years after the effective date26of this part for members of the board licensed as dental27assistants by this part.06479'98 3 1 (4) A board member licensed to practice as a dental 2 hygienist or a dental assistant shall vote as an equal member OF 3 THE BOARD in all matters except those designated in section 4 16148(1) or (2)whichTHAT apply to dentists and not to dental 5 hygienists or dental assistants. 06479'98 Final page.
