SENATE BILL NO. 1022 March 18, 1998, Introduced by Senator JAYE and referred to the Committee on Hunting, Fishing and Forestry. A bill to provide for the surrender of fishing rights by Indian tribes that engage in or authorize others to engage in casino gaming. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the 2 "fish or chips act". 3 Sec. 2. As used in this act, "casino" and "gaming" mean 4 those terms as defined in the Michigan gaming control and revenue 5 act, the Initiated Law of 1996, MCL 432.201 to 432.226. 6 Sec. 3. A federally recognized Indian tribe that engages in 7 or authorizes any person to engage in casino gaming on Native 8 American land or land held in trust by the United States for a 9 federally recognized Indian tribe under the Indian gaming 10 regulatory act, Public Law 100-497, 102 Stat. 2467, thereby 05579'98 TMV 2 1 surrenders any rights to engage in gill net fishing in this 2 state. 05579'98 Final page.
