SENATE BILL NO. 1284 September 16, 1998, Introduced by Senators MC MANUS, BENNETT, GOUGEON, SCHWARZ, KOIVISTO and BYRUM and referred to the Committee on Appropriations. A bill to amend 1994 PA 451, entitled "Natural resources and environmental protection act," by amending sections 43902 and 43905 (MCL 324.43902 and 324.43905), as added by 1995 PA 57. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 43902. (1) The nongame fish and wildlife trust fund is 2 created in the state treasury. The trust fund shall consist of 3 all money credited to the trust fund pursuant to section 439 of 4 the income tax act of 1967,Act No. 281 of the Public Acts of51967, being section 206.439 of the Michigan Compiled Laws1967 6 PA 281, MCL 206.439, AND SECTION 811D OF THE MICHIGAN VEHICLE 7 CODE, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257.811D, and any interest and earnings 8 accruing from the saving and investment of that money. 9 (2) The trust fund may receive appropriations, money, or 10 other things of value. 05789'98 a TLG 2 1 (3) The state treasurer shall direct the investment of the 2 trust fund. 3 Sec. 43905. The department shall do all of the following: 4 (a) Develop long-range nongame wildlife plans. 5 (b) Provide information to the public about the value of 6 nongame fish and wildlife and their habitats. 7 (c) Review and develop proposals for projects to implement 8 the long-range management plan. 9 (d) Determine the interests and opinions of the public in 10 managing nongame fish and wildlife. 11 (e) Encourage public involvement by offering projects and 12 activities with which the public can become involved to increase 13 their knowledge and understanding of nongame fish and wildlife 14 resources in this state. 15 (f) Integrate the nongame fish and wildlife program with 16 other department programs that affect or benefit nongame fish and 17 wildlife or their habitats. 18 (G) PURCHASE AND DEVELOP CRITICAL WILDLIFE HABITATS IN THIS 19 STATE. 20 Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take 21 effect unless Senate Bill No. 1285 22 of the 89th Legislature is enacted into 23 law. 05789'98 a Final page. TLG
