A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state con- stitution of 1963, by amending section 21 of article V, to pro- vide for the nomination of the secretary of state and attorney general at the August primary. Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the state of Michigan, That the following amendment to the state con- stitution of 1963, to provide for the nomination of the secretary of state and attorney general at the August primary, is proposed, agreed to, and submitted to the people of the state: 1 ARTICLE V 2 Sec. 21. The governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of 3 state and attorney general shall be elected for four-year terms 4 at the general election in each alternate even-numbered year. 5 The lieutenant governor , secretary of state and attorney 6 general shall be nominated by party conventions in a manner 06717'98 KKR 2 1 prescribed by law. In the general election one vote shall be 2 cast jointly for the candidates for governor and lieutenant gov- 3 ernor nominated by the same party. THE SECRETARY OF STATE AND 4 ATTORNEY GENERAL SHALL BE NOMINATED IN THE MANNER PRESCRIBED BY 5 LAW AT THE AUGUST PRIMARY PRECEDING THE GENERAL ELECTION AT WHICH 6 THE OFFICE WILL BE FILLED. 7 Vacancies in the office of the secretary of state and attor- 8 ney general shall be filled by appointment by the governor. 9 Resolved further, That the foregoing amendment shall be sub- 10 mitted to the people of the state at the next general election in 11 the manner provided by law. 06717'98 Final page.
