SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION H


  March 5, 1997, Introduced by Senators CARL and SHUGARS and
            referred to the Committee on Gaming and Casino Oversight.
     


        A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state con-

   stitution of 1963, by amending section 41 of article IV, to pro-

   hibit casino and riverboat gambling and electronic gaming devices

   that award cash prizes or prizes redeemable for cash.

        Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the

   state of Michigan, That the following amendment to the state con-

   stitution of 1963, to prohibit casino and riverboat gambling and

   electronic gaming devices that award cash prizes or prizes

   redeemable for cash, is proposed, agreed to, and submitted to the

   people of the state:

 1                                ARTICLE IV

 2         Sec. 41.  (1) The legislature may authorize lotteries and

 3    permit the sale of lottery tickets in the manner provided by

 4    law.

 1         (2) NO LAW SHALL BE ENACTED AUTHORIZING CASINO OR RIVERBOAT

 2    GAMBLING OR PERMITTING THE MANUFACTURE, DISTRIBUTION, OR USE OF

 3    ELECTRONIC GAMING DEVICES THAT AWARD CASH PRIZES OR PRIZES

 4    REDEEMABLE FOR CASH.

 5         Resolved further, That the foregoing amendment shall be sub-

 6    mitted to the people of the state at the next general election in

 7    the manner provided by law.
