ADDENDUM TO SENATE FISCAL AGENCY ANALYSIS OF SB 631 DATED 11-1-99:
HOUSE COMMITTEE ACTION:
The House Education Committee adopted one amendment to Senate Bill 631 (S-1), in order to clarify the two conditions under which the bill applies.
The Senate-passed version of the bill specifies that a student in a public or nonpublic school could use a metered dose inhaler or a dry powder inhaler to alleviate asthmatic symptoms, or before exercise to prevent the onset of asthmatic symptoms if a) the student had written approval to have and use the inhaler from a physician or health care provider, and if a minor, from his or her parent or guardian; and, b) the principal or other chief administrator of the school had received a copy of each of those written approvals.
The House Education Committee changed the first condition to clarify the definition of health care provider, so that the provision would read: if a) the student has written approval to have and use the inhaler from a physician or "other health care provider authorized by law to prescribe an inhaler."
