ADDENDUM TO SENATE FISCAL AGENCY ANALYSIS OF SB 718 AND 719 DATED 1-19-00:
HOUSE COMMITTEE ACTION:
The House Committee on Criminal Law and Corrections adopted a substitute for Senate Bill 718 that would provide an additional exception to the prohibition against possessing, purchasing, delivering, selling, or exchanging certain vehicle identification equipment. The prohibition would not apply to motor vehicles in which one or more of the listed items had been installed as allowed by law. In addition, the substitute would exempt motor vehicles obtained from or at the direction of a law enforcement agency from the bill's prohibition against purchasing, receiving, or obtaining control of a motor vehicle or motor vehicle part with the intent to sell or dispose of the vehicle or part, knowing that an identification number had been removed or altered. Finally, the substitute also includes an effective date of October 1, 2000.
The committee's amendment to Senate Bill 719 would provide an effective date of October 1, 2000.
