A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4284 AS INTRODUCED 2-16-99

The Code of Criminal Procedure allows for a court to place certain restrictions or conditions upon a probationer's sentence of probation. House Bill 4284 would amend the code to provide that an individual's probation could be conditioned on his or her participation in and successful completion of one or more rehabilitative programs, including but not limited to drug or alcohol treatment programs or drug or alcohol education programs. This restriction would replace a more limited current provision allowing a sentence of probation to be conditioned upon the probationer's mere participation in an inpatient or outpatient drug treatment program.
