A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4598 AS INTRODUCED 4-28-99

The bill would amend the Michigan Penal Code to make it a felony to forward an application for a loan or for other financial credit on behalf of a person to another person knowing or having reason to know that the application had been prepared or was being submitted "in violation of this chapter." A related bill, House Bill 4413, would amend the same chapter of the penal code to make it a felony to prepare or submit an application for credit in another person's name without the person's authorization and to receive or possess an instrument or device for accessing credit obtained using another's name.

The penalty in House Bill 4598 would be imprisonment for not more than four years or a fine of not more than $100,000, or both.
