A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4616 AS INTRODUCED 5-4-99

House Bill 4616 would amend the Revised School Code to change the definition of "pupil" that is used in public schools to determine the number and kinds of students who are eligible to be counted in membership in each school district. Currently, "pupil" means a person in membership in a public school, and a district must have the approval of the pupil's district of residence to count the pupil in membership. However, the law stipulates seven kinds of enrolled pupils where approval by the pupil's district of residence cannot be required.

House Bill 4616 would add an eighth instance where approval by the pupil's district of residence cannot be required: a pupil enrolled in an alternative education program operated by a district other than his or her district of residence.
