A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4856 AS INTRODUCED 9-28-99

Currently, the Michigan Election Law prohibits anyone within 100 feet of the entrance to a building in which a polling place is located from campaigning for or against any particular candidate or party ticket or ballot question being voted on in that election; from placing or distributing stickers (other than those provided by the election officials pursuant to law); from soliciting donations or signatures; or from posting or displaying campaign material. The bill would reduce this distance to 50 feet.
