A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4910 AS INTRODUCED 9-29-99
House Bill 4910 would amend the Revised School Code to require the board of a school district or public school academy to include, as part of its locally adopted core academic curriculum, a class in community service for students in grades six, nine, and 12. Under the bill, the community service class would be required to focus on developing positive behavioral attitudes in students, making them aware of their surroundings, and on the importance of maintaining and improving both school and community facilities. To those ends, the bill would require that students in the class engage in activities to serve the school community both in the school building and outside, including work on grounds maintenance, and as safety patrol and building monitors.
