A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILLS 4914 and 4915 AS INTRODUCED 9-29-99
The bills would require meat processors and meat product manufacturers to implement anti-listeria programs by January 1, 2002. More specifically, House Bill 4914 would amend the Food Processing Act of 1977 (MCL 289.805) and House Bill 4915 (MCL 289.588) would amend the Michigan Comminuted Meat Law, respectively, to require the Department of Agriculture to promulgate rules requiring the establishment of an anti-listeria program not later than January 1, 2002, to include at least irradiation and pasteurization.
