A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5083 AS INTRODUCED 11-2-99

The bill would amend the Revised Judicature Act to eliminate the prescribed bar exam and bar admission fees and instead require that the fees be set annually by the state supreme court at an amount not to exceed the cost required to administer the admission examination and re-examination. The bill would also require the auditor general to perform a post-audit of the [examination and admission] program using the same policies and criteria used to audit executive branch agencies.

The fees that would be struck are: applicants for examination, $175; applicants for re-examination or recertification, $100; applicants for admission without examination, $400; and the additional fee for late filing of application or transfer of an application, $100.
