A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5113 AS INTRODUCED 11-9-99
House Bill 5113 would amend the Revised School Code to raise the compulsory age of school attendance from 16 years old to 18 years old. Specifically, the bill specifies that every parent, guardian, or other person having control and charge of a child from the age of six to the child's eighteenth birthday would be required to send that child to public school during the entire school year. The bill also specifies the increase in age from 16 years to 18 years in the provision of the code concerning ungraded schools that are established for disorderly juveniles (which the law describes as those habitually truant, incorrigibly turbulent, disobedient, insubordinate, immoral in conduct, or who habitually frequent streets and other public places having no lawful business, employment, or occupation).
