A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5320 AS INTRODUCED 2-8-00


The bill would add a new section to the lobbying act, Public Act 472 of 1978, to prohibit former legislators from lobbying for at least 12 months after leaving legislative employment, and would make violations misdemeanors punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 or imprisonment for up to 90 days, or both.


More specifically, the bill would prohibit a former member of the Michigan Senate or House of Representatives from making expenditures or receiving reimbursement for actual expenses for lobbying until at least 12 months after leaving the employ of the legislative branch of government.
