A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5322 AS INTRODUCED 2- 8-00

The General Property Tax Act specifies the number of hours a township board of review must meet in March to hear property tax protests. The board of review must meet on the second Monday in March at 9 a.m. and continue in session for at least six hours. The board must also meet for at least six hours during the remainder of that week. The act also requires that in a township with a population of 10,000 or more, the board of review must hold at least three hours of its required session for review of assessment rolls during the week of March 9 after 6 p.m.

House Bill 5322 would remove the population figure and require all township boards of review to meet for at least three hours after 6 p.m.
