VETERANS' CEMETERY

House Bill 5937

Sponsor: Rep. Ken Bradstreet

Committee: Veterans Affairs

Complete to 10-26-00

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5937 AS INTRODUCED 9-26-00

The bill would create the "state veterans cemetery act," and would authorize the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to acquire ("and purchase") land in Crawford County suitable for a veterans' cemetery. The department also would be allowed to accept money or gifts from any source to do this.

The bill also would require the Veterans Affairs Directorate (in the Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs) to apply for, and to accept, all available grants under the National Cemetery System, and to administer a veterans' cemetery created under the bill in compliance with all federal laws and regulations.

Finally, the bill would require the legislature to appropriate sufficient money to accomplish the bill's purpose.
