A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6072 AS INTRODUCED 10-4-00


House Bill 6072 would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to provide that a gas tax overpayment be deducted from vehicle registration fees. Specifically, the bill would require the secretary of state to deduct $1.74 from the cost of each 2001 calendar year vehicle registration. That deduction would represent a proportionate return to each taxpayer of the increased amount of gasoline and diesel fuel taxes collected by the state in the 2000 calendar year.
