A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6073 AS INTRODUCED 10-04-00

Currently, the Michigan Penal Code exempts certain people and organizations from having to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Currently exempted are regularly paid peace officers of a duly authorized federal, state or local police agency; persons employed by the state Department of Corrections -- or by a private vendor that operates a youth correctional facility -- who are authorized by the director of the department to carry concealed weapons while performing their official duties (or while going to or returning from those duties); members of the military (including the army, air force, navy, marine corps, national guard, armed forces reserves, or other duly authorized military organizations) when carrying weapons in line of duty; and organizations legally authorized to buy or receive weapons from the United States or from the state of Michigan.

The bill would amend the code to include in the list of exemptions regularly employed reserve police officers of duly authorized police agencies of the state or local governments.
