CONTENT
The bill would amend the Revised Judicature Act (RJA) to increase the per-page transcript fee to which circuit court reporters or recorders are entitled for original pages. The RJA provides that the reporters or recorders are entitled to demand and receive $1.75 per original page and 30 cents per page for each copy, unless a lower rate is agreed upon. The bill would increase the original-page rate to $3 per page.

FISCAL IMPACT
The bill would result in increased costs to the State and local units of government. According to the State Court Administrative Office, 1995 trial court costs for transcripts totaled approximately $2.7 million. An estimated cost for State government is not available.
Transcript fees in district and probate court are statutorily tied to MCL 600.2543.
