EXPAND SWIMMING POOL AUTHORITY - S.B. 1289: COMMITTEE SUMMARY

Senate Bill 1289 (as introduced 5-24-00)

Sponsor: Senator Glenn D. Steil

Committee: Local, Urban and State Affairs

Date Completed: 5-31-00

CONTENT

The bill would amend Public Act 425 of 1994, which provides for the creation of community swimming pool authorities to own or operate a community swimming pool, to expand the definition of "district".

Currently, "district" means a school district that serves a municipality whose population is not less than two counties, each of which has at least 15% of the municipality's population. Under the bill, "district" also would include a school district that served at least one municipality with a population of at least 15,000, and was located in no less than two counties, having at least 10% of the school district's population in each county.

Under the Act, two or more municipalities may establish a community swimming pool authority if specific requirements are met. These include the existence of a single "district" in which all or part of the territory of each municipality is located.
