CONTENT
House Bill 4846 (H-4) would amend the Motor Carrier Safety Act to permit trailers with a gross vehicle weight or gross vehicle weight rating of up to 15,000 pounds to be equipped with surge brakes for intrastate operation as allowed under the Michigan Vehicle Code.
House Bill 4865 (H-1) would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to provide that a trailer or semitrailer of a gross weight of at least 15,000 pounds when operated on a highway would have to be equipped with brakes operating on all wheels and designed to be applied by the driver of the towing motor vehicle from its cab. Currently, this type of brake equipment is required on a trailer or semitrailer with gross weight of at least 5,500 pounds.
