BOARD OF REVIEW HOURS - H.B. 5322 (H-2): COMMITTEE SUMMARY
House Bill 5322 (Substitute H-2 as passed by the House)
Sponsor: Representative Steve Vear
House Committee: Tax Policy
Senate Committee: Finance
Date Completed: 5-23-00
CONTENT
The bill would amend the General Property Tax Act to require a township board of review to meet for at least three hours of its required March meetings after 6 p.m.; and require the board to meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second Monday in March.
Currently, the Act requires a board of review to meet to hear protests of assessments on the second Monday in March at 9 a.m., and continue in session for at least six hours during the day. The board must meet for at least six hours during the remainder of that week. In a township with a population of 10,000 or more, the board must meet during that week for at least three hours after 6 p.m. The bill would remove the population limit, which would extend the requirement to all townships.

FISCAL IMPACT
The bill would change only when a board of review meets, and therefore should not have any fiscal impact on State or local governments.
